Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic-recurrent inflammatory skin disease clinically characterised by redness and scaling.

The cause of seborrheic dermatitis has not yet been fully determined, but it is likely caused by a combination of excessive sebum production, fungal activity (Malassezia), inflammatory and immunologic factors.

Common signs and symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis in adults and adolescents include:

• Skin flakes or dandruff
• Redness, itching, or oily skin
• Greasy, inflamed, pink to red skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales
• Patchy scaling or thick crusts on the scalp
